A happy evening was spent at Thornfield celebrating bonfire night. Hotdogs, homemade cookies and hot drinking chocolate topped with cream was enjoyed by everyone as well as the fireworks.

A few new photos of life at Thornfield. Creative Minds once again held an art class which is always very popular with the residents.

Sadie from Strictly Entertainment put on a show stopping performance which everyone enjoyed and a resident, relatives and staff coffee morning was also enjoyed last week and thanks to Emma for making an amazing sticky coffee cake for the occasion.

Meanwhile four of our gentlemen reidents went with our maintenance team to the local builders merchant to collect supplies and also had a great tour of the local countryside.

Railway enthusiasts!

Yesterday at Thornfield a gentleman visited from Pecorama in Beer, the home of the famous Peco brand of model railways. Some of our residents thoroughly enjoyed spending the morning in our railway carriage chatting to him about all kinds of trains and model railways.

Raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

Last week staff at Silverleigh made cakes which were then sold to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. "Changing lives with every slice." Lots of fun and enjoyment was had by everyone throughout the day and lots of money was raised for a wonderful cause. Thank you to everyone who took part in the day.


A new look at The Check House

A new feel has been created in a tiny corner of the lounge. We decided to create a fun seaside inspired area with very familiar local images on the wall. Thanks to both Vince and Chris for making a new bench and painting it in very patriotic colours.  

Garden Party at Silverleigh

On Bank Holiday Monday Silverleigh celebrated their annual Garden Party. It was also the first major event to be held in our new garden. Chefs Ian, Patryk and Stuart created some lovely food for everyone to enjoy for afternoon tea as well as serving Goddards fresh locally made icecream, which was extremely popular. Thank you to the whole kitchen team. We were lucky to have a perfect summers day which allowed our residents, families and friends to enjoy the garden while listening to music played by Paul Boswell which also encouraged some residents to join in a few dances. A really successful and enjoyable day. Thank you to all the staff at Silverleigh for making the day special for everyone.

Thank you to Vince for creating such a lovely display of flowers outside the entrance to The Check House. He is also a very experienced local gardener and has just won lots of prizes at The Axmouth Village Show. He won seven cups and was the overall winner of the show. Dahlias 1st, Gladioli 1st, Pompom Dahlias 1st, Hanging Basket 1st, Carrots 1st, a Collection of Salad Vegetables 1st and the list goes on!! Well done Vince.

Virtual Dementia Training at The Check House

Yesterday many of the staff at The Check House experienced a simulation of what it may feel like to live with Dementia. The feed back from the staff is that it was fascinating to learn and sense the challenges which our residents experience. It was just such a positive additional training for our staff to take part in, which will in turn directly enhance the care which is provided by all the staff at The Check House.

Trip to the Tank Museum in Dorchester

In pursuit of yet further improvements to help us deliver an ever enjoyable quality of life for our residents we have recently recruited three top chefs from the hotel and restaurant sector. Ian, seen on the right, has most recently worked as head chef at the Alexandra Hotel in Lyme Regis and is ably supported in the kitchen by Patryk and Stuart.
