Thornfield was originally an Edwardian Villa and became a care home in the 1980’s. The home is situated on the outskirts of the lovely seaside town of Seaton which is located on the world famous Jurassic Coast.
Thornfield is proud to have been used as a template for training in dementia care in a training initiative shown on the ‘Aged Care Channel’, a specialist TV channel. This was developed alongside Bradford University who specialise in training developments for staff in Dementia Care Homes.
We have developed a fun and visually stimulating environment for everyone who lives at Thornfield. All the rooms except one are en-suite and each room has a 24 hour call bell system.
The ambience is homely and welcoming with clear signage and coloured handrails which promotes independent mobility. We have used a lot of reminiscence memorabilia throughout the home which creates stimulating areas where residents can enjoy their meals or just relax and socialise.
There is a hair salon, a general store, The Snug Inn, a conservatory and other large lounge areas with dining tables as well as smaller areas for quiet reflection.
The residents are also able to enjoy a secluded, quiet and safe garden when the weather is warm.
