Situated in a quiet street in the heart of the market town of Axminster, Silverleigh provides a high level of service, excellent standards of care, well trained professional staff and a warm homely atmosphere.
It has easy, level access to the church, library, post office and shops, doctor’s surgery and pharmacy. Silverleigh has dual registration for both Nursing and Residential and we are very proud to specialise in Dementia. There is 24 hour care for people who may be physically frail, have mental health difficulties or simply for those who may just require companionship. We also provide both respite and day care.
The en-suite bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and a number of activities take place in the relaxed sitting rooms. Each person is treated as an individual and visitors are welcomed to join in or to stay for refreshments.
People have the opportunity to walk daily around the town or to spend time in the peaceful gardens, which provide quiet seating areas with easy access for wheelchairs.
All of our bedrooms have been tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished. The majority of the bedrooms are en-suite and the residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own belongings, including pictures and items of furniture. Passenger lifts provide easy access to all the floors.
Residents can choose to relax or socialise in any of the communal lounges where many of our activities take place. There are also plenty of additional areas including a games room where residents can meet with family or friends or just sit quietly with a paper or enjoy listening to music. At Silverleigh we understand the importance of keeping in touch with family and friends. Visitors are always welcome to join in with any of our activities or join us for refreshments or a meal.
‘The General Store’ at Silverleigh offers residents’ the opportunity to choose and purchase their toiletries or a variety of sweets and chocolates. The shop has been designed to recreate an old fashioned feel with a small area displaying memorabilia and lots of old advertising labels from years gone by. Loose sweets can also be bought, weighed out on old fashioned scales and sold in candy bags.
‘The Snug Inn’ has been designed with a functional bar so that people can enjoy being in a pub like atmosphere with traditional pub games and playing cards. They can enjoy an alcoholic or non alcoholic drink if they wish. Both the Bar and the Shop are non profit making.
We also have a games room with a small snooker table and an air hockey table where residents can enjoy a game or little competitions, and both are proving to be immensely popular and fun.
Our well, equipped hair salon is open three days a week and chiropody is available on a fortnightly basis. We offer residents both group and one to one exercises, and this includes a weekly Tai Chi lesson, and a weekly physical fitness class taken by a qualified personal trainer, which is proving to be immensely popular. The residents are also able to go to the hydrotherapy pool in Axminster, twice a week for swimming sessions. We have an Aromatherapist who offers one to one relaxation and massage and residents can be taken into Axminster to see their optician or dentist. In house appointments can also be made if required.
There is a full programme of organised activities including word games, quizzes, discussions, reminiscence activities and music. The gardens offer a perfect place for afternoon tea and summer garden parties. Purpose built raised beds provide the opportunity for a little gardening for our more green-fingered residents.
Our minibus takes our more adventurous residents on visits to local places of interest four afternoons a week, and when the weather permits, longer outings and picnics are planned.
Daily newspapers are delivered to Silverleigh and we also have visits from a mobile library.
For those residents unable to attend a Sunday Service in Axminster we hold a combined service with communion at Silverleigh once a month.

Our restaurant style dining room overlooks the garden and provides a perfect environment to enjoy a satisfying and nourishing meal in the company of others. Residents are able to have meals in their own rooms if they prefer.
We recognise that for many people a visual prompt is sometimes required, so our chef offers a wide range of balanced, wholesome home cooked dishes, which are displayed on a picture menu so that residents can be more independent with their choice. There is an extensive choice at breakfast. Cereal, yoghurts, fresh fruit, juices, prunes and grapefruit as well as a full English breakfast, freshly cooked to order from the kitchen. We have desert fridge which displays the choices of daily homemade desserts and there is always a hot homemade pudding of the day. We also serve red and white wine with lunch for those you would like to enjoy a glass.
Paul, our chef, spends time with the residents discussing their preferences and special dietary requirements. Particular care is taken with residents who have dietary problems and for those who have difficulty in swallowing. For those who require a soft diet the chef presents food, both piped onto a plate and shaped in quenelles. This enhances the presentation and allows those residents needing pureed diets to dine with dignity.
Afternoon tea is served each day with homemade cake. Snacks and hot and cold drinks are available throughout the day and night. We also provide a choice of cold drinks to the bedrooms daily.
