About Silverleigh
Silverleigh is situated in a quiet street in the heart of the market town of Axminster Devon. There is easy level access to the church, library, post office and shops. The doctors’ surgery and pharmacy are located next door. All of this means we are very much part of the local community.
Silverleigh provides 24 hour care for up to 54 residents who may be physically disabled, have Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia or may just need companionship. We provide a high level of service, excellent standards of care, well trained professional staff and a warm homely atmosphere. We treat every resident as an individual. For this reason, we offer several types of stay, dependent on the level of support a person requires, from long term residential care to respite care and convalescence for short periods, and day care.
The staff focus on the specific needs of our residents with a ‘person centred’ care plan in place for each individual. Every resident is enabled to make choices and we support and help them to remain as independent as possible.
We offer an extensive programme of activities throughout the week and our chef prepares home cooked food using fresh local produce whenever possible. The home is maintained to an extremely high standard and is spacious and airy.
Silverleigh is a home offering choice, comfort and understanding and is rated ‘excellent’ by the Care Quality Commission.
In 2009, Cannon Care Homes began a working relationship with Bradford University starting with a specific project at Thornfield. Paul Edwards, Head of Training and Practice Development of the Bradford University Dementia Group has written;
"Over the last year Bradford University Dementia Group, School of Health Studies at the University of Bradford has had the privilege of supporting the developments of Thornfield Care Home. The Home has developed its care staff to understand the needs of its residents and provide services that enrich a persons' quality of life. The Home has made remarkable progress over the year and Thornfield is soundly on a path to develop excellence across its service. The staff team and management are committed to continually develop the quality of care and ensure that people are treated as unique individuals with a full life still to lead.
Thornfield is on a journey to provide better care and that is to be applauded."
